In 2014, I was hired by the United States Olympic Committee to help grow @TeamUSA’s social media footprint across Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram covering the Olympic trials and the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic games. As part of my role, I covered many live events leading up to the games, including the Golden Globes where I served as a Red Carpet Correspondent interviewing both celebrities and athletes that were in attendance. Ahead of the games we worked cross-functionally with many team members to develop a consistent brand voice for Team USA and to create engaging sponsored digital content for Team USA’s portfolio of partners.
It was a record-breaking Olympics on social media as @TeamUSA earned 1.01 billion impressions and there were over 1.24 million #TeamUSA mentions. The @TeamUSA Twitter account amassed 107,028 new followers, up from London 2012 when 50,819 followers were added. @TeamUSA’s Instagram account also gained more than 100,000 new followers throughout the games.
Several U.S. Olympians experienced immense growth on their individual social platforms, with T.J. Oshie, Gus Kenworthy, and Shaun White each adding over 90,000 new followers.
